Food Labels
The food industry is an incredibly competitive one – to stand out amongst the thousands of other items on the supermarket shelf, each trying to grab your attention, is no mean feat.
At Cohesion, however, we’ve built a reputation for creating food labels that do just that.
Description
A food label is any sticker, sleeve, print or package that delivers information about the contents of a food product to a potential buyer. Like books, food products are inevitably judged by their covers, making the label critical to a product’s success.
First and foremost, a food label or food sticker is there to draw the eyes of a potential buyer to your product, making it shout “buy me!” It should then offer up a reason to buy, as well as all the information the buyer might care to know. Finally, a food label needs to present the necessary information to meet regulatory requirements; things like warnings, date markings, ingredient lists and nutrition information.

- What are my regulatory obligations?
- Where will the product be sold? Have I considered the look of the food labels online?

What material do we use for our food labels?
Would you like the short answer or the long answer?
We use any and every material. Adhesive, laminate, removable, dry peel, hot melt, thermal, gloss, matte, paper, acrylic, polypropylene, metallic… if it can be made into a label, it’s likely in our range.
This puts us in a position to offer the perfect food label for your product. Whether it needs to stay strong when wet, frozen, microwaved or thrown against a wall, there’ll be a material in our range to suit.
What information is mandatory on a food label?
Depending on the product, any or all of the following information may be mandatory on your food packaging:
- Warning and advisory declarations
- Ingredient labelling
- Date marking
- Nutrition information requirements
- Percentage labelling
- Country of origin labelling
There are also rules regarding the legibility of the information on your packaging You can take a closer look at the regulations on the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand website.
What is the country of origin food labelling standard?
On the 1st of July 2016 a new country of origin food labelling system was instituted under Australian Consumer Law. It requires every retail product designed for human consumption to be labelled with the country from which it came.
You can read more about the standard at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website.
Does the adhesive on your labels ever go off?
The durability of a label or sticker can vary depending on the material and adhesive in question, but a typical time frame guaranteed by suppliers is two years. If a label or sticker isn’t designed for certain conditions, whether moisture, extreme temperatures or direct sunlight, the lifespan of the adhesive may be shorter.
You can generally expect labels to last two years from the date of manufacture, if stored in optimal conditions (a temperature of 20C, and relative humidity of 50%.)
Are food labels waterproof?
Yes, a large portion of the Cohesion Labels range is waterproof (although not all of it.) The level of moisture that your product is likely to encounter will dictate your choice of label – a product that is likely to be submerged in water will need a higher level of water resistance than one that might be exposed to a little condensation.
Again, our friendly team can help you make the perfect label choice for your situation!
