Description

A beer/cider label is both a marketing device and a source of information. There are certain regulatory requirements that every retail beer and cider label must meet, but over and above those, the label is simply there to attract potential drinkers and represent the experience delivered by the liquid inside.

Beer and cider labels come in a number of different forms. Glass bottles will usually feature beer stickers, while beer cans can either be branded using an adhesive label or by printing directly onto the aluminium.”

Can I customise beer and cider labels?

As a beer or cider label must both describe and sell the specific beverage that it’s stuck to, customisation of your beer or cider label is critical – you can’t just go shopping for beer/cider labels online.

Happily our in-house design team is ready to help. They bring a wealth of experience in beer label design, and are able to create something simple, or a custom branded label that makes your product look great and gives consumers all the information they require!

What information do you need on a beer or cider label?

Being a heavily regulated industry, beer labels have a long list of mandatory information that must be included on the label. Here’s a (very brief) overview:

  • Product description: It must say it’s a beer, and ideally the variety (e.g. IPA, lager, etc.)
  • Volume statement: How many mL of beer in the bottle/can?
  • Alcohol content: As a percentage of the volume.
  • Standard drinks: Both as a statement and in a logo.
  • Country of origin: Either ‘Grown In’, ‘Produced In’ or
  • ‘Made In’.
  • Supplier name: And address.
  • 10c refund statement: Now applicable in WA!
  • Best before date: As per food labels.
  • Pregnancy advisory: A short statement about potential dangers.
  • Lot identification: To trace any bad batches.
  • Sulphites and allergens: Declaring the use of sulphites, egg products, nuts, etc.
  • Other ingredients: If you’ve used non-traditional beer ingredients they must be declared.

There are a wealth of other optional label inclusions, including a barcode, recycling information, responsible drinking messages, nutrition information and an ingredients list, but these can be used at the discretion of the brewer.

What beer and cider label sizes do you print?

At Cohesion our high-end machinery is capable of producing the highest quality beer and cider labels in whatever shape, size, material and design you need!

What material do we use for our beer and cider labels?

Would you like the short answer or the long answer?

We use any and every material. Adhesive (hot melt and acrylic), laminate, removable, thermal, gloss, matte, paper, polypropylene, metallic… if it can be made into a label, it’s likely in our range. Because they will be refrigerated and exposed to moisture – whether through condensation or the inside of an Esky – beer labels are usually made of materials that are hard-wearing and waterproof, but this still grants you plenty of options.

At Cohesion we’re in a position to offer the perfect beer or cider label for your product. No matter the look that you’re after or the bottle or can that you’re sticking it to, there’ll be a material in our range to suit.

How do you print beer labels?

The way we print beer and cider labels changes depending on the material we’re applying them to and the preferences of the customer. We generally supply them as stickers, choosing the appropriate adhesive depending on whether the label will be stuck to bottles or cans.
